The purpose of the Alternative Christmas Market is to provide people with the opportunity to give Christmas Gifts that will bring the true joy of Christmas to the giver, the recipient, and to those who are in need - As most people in the community know, economic conditions are not the best right now. In our community, many people are adversely affected and for many families, a daily struggle to provide and make ends meet is an impossible task. These people, who are in need, turn to special agencies that give many forms of assistance. . . a warm meal, a warm coat, temporary shelter over their head, groceries, life skill training... the list goes on and on. These area agencies have seen a huge increase in demand of their services because of hard economic times. To make matters worse, the agencies' local resource funding has been reduced, even most state and federal funding is down.
